I would like to share with you some very interesting events and calls just around the corner.
EIT Food’s first EU conference gathering policy-makers and food innovation experts to brainstorm on the future of food will take place on the 20th of November. This one-day event will provide a platform to discuss the possible solutions and the key levers for transforming the food system and delivering impact. It will bring together EIT Food partners with EU policy-makers from the European Commission, the European Parliament and the Council, as well as other EU stakeholders from industry, academia and civil society.
The Oxford Centre for Animal Ethics will run a summer school on 26 to 29 July 2020, at St Stephen’s House, University of Oxford, on how ongoing changes in attitudes towards animals should be incorporated into public policy and institutions.Experts from a range of disciplines are invited to present at the summer school. All selected papers will be considered for publication in book form or in the Journal of Animal Ethics. Deadline is January 15, 2020.
Next 13–15 May 2020 in GARGNANO – Garda Lake, Italy the seminar “THE WIND OF CHANGE OF SUSTAINABILITY STANDARDS Sailing economic, governance, and policy perspectives will take place”. The objective of the seminar is to improve the understanding of sustainability standards and their effects on agricultural, food, and bio-based value chains. The seminar focuses on public and private sustainability standards. January 15th, 2020 is the deadline for the submission of extended abstract for oral presentation (max 3 pages).
The Rotterdam region will host the 30th edition of IFAMA. This prestigious conference will be held from 15-18 June 2020 and will focus entirely on present day and future challenges in the food sector. The full width of the sector will be addressed: from production to processing and from logistics to research. Set at multiple locations in the Rotterdam region, this conference will showcase all aspects of the food sector.
The 3rd International Conference Insects to Feed the World 2020 will take place at the Québec Convention Centre in Canada, from June 2-6 2020. The conference program will be broad with topics including, but not limited to: Insect as food (ethno-entomology), Harvesting and traditional role of eating insects, Sustainable consumption and food security, Perception, marketing and economics, Insect production systems, Processing organic side streams, Optimization, engineering, automatation and security, Genetics, nutrition, physiology, health & ethics of edible insects, Waste management. Abstract submission deadline is March 5, 2020.
The Fourth Global Food Symposium will be held at the University of Göttingen in Germany on April 24th and 25th, 2020. The aim is to discuss new research findings and policy challenges related to the global agri-food system transformation. The two-day event will feature plenary sessions with invited speakers, contributed paper sessions, and posters. Confirmed speakers include Chris Barrett (USA), Jessica Fanzo (USA), Jill Hobbs (Canada), Miet Maertens (Belgium), Catherine Ragasa (USA), Tom Reardon (USA), Lucia Reisch (Denmark), Jo Swinnen (Belgium), Rob Vos (USA), and David Zilberman (USA). We invite submissions for contributed papers and posters from all researchers working on related topics from an economics and/or social science perspective. Topics include supply chain management, linking smallholders to markets, contract farming, food standards and trade, food security and poverty, nutrition transition, and sustainable consumption. All submissions should be in the form of an extended 2- page abstract to be submitted via the GlobalFood website (http://www.uni-goettingen.de/globalfood). The submission deadline is November 15, 2019.
The Winter School on "Survey Design and Experimental Methods in Applied and Agricultural Economics" will be held in Arizona State University, USA next March 16-20, 2020. The main objective of the winter school is to deliver an organic treatment of theoretical and practical knowledge so as to enable participants to design surveys and employ experimental methods. More specifically, this school serves as an introduction to state-of-the-art methods to address marketing research questions related to preferences, willingness to pay, and choice. Finally, two special issue calls:
Dr. Ellen Van Loo, Dr. Vincenzina Caputo, and Dr. Claudia Bazzani will serve as Guest Editors to the next Special Issue "Food Quality, Price and Consumer Choices". Researchers are invited to submit articles focusing on quality credence quality labels such as environmental and ethical sustainability labels (e.g., organic, sustainable aquaculture and fisheries, animal welfare, fair trade, carbon footprint, local, food miles), symbols and origin labels (country of origin, Protected Designation of Origin, PDO and Protected Geographical Indication, PGI) and labels related to traditional production (Traditional Specialty Guaranteed, TSG), and nutrition- and health-related claims.
